In this issue we keep you up to date with developments with the Climbing Frame website, provide information on the revised matrix Standard and the Climbing Frame discussion forums. We give an update on the Health Sector Learning Themes project, take a closer look at the ‘Higher Learning’ Learning Theme and we outline some of the Climbing Frame Support Resources. Unionlearn is a partner to TUC affiliate Prospect’s initiative to deliver the ‘Environmental Science’ competition for under 19 year old college students at UK Skills 2012.

McVitie’s in Manchester employs over 600 people and has around 70% of the workforce engaged in learning. McVitie’s have supported hundreds of learners through their union learning projects and set up a Collective Learning Funds (CLFs) to make learning more affordable.

The Labour Research Department (LRD) is carrying out a new green reps national survey on behalf of the TUC and trade unions across the UK. We would be grateful if you could complete this questionnaire as soon as possible.

Apprenticeships: Quality and Equality is unionlearn’s annual conference highlighting the role that trade unions play in supporting apprentices in the workplace and working with employers to develop more high quality apprenticeship places. This year’s event will focus on the roles that unions can play in ensuring apprenticeships are high quality and are accessible to people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

This toolkit has been specifically developed for union learning representatives (ULRs), community learning champions (CLCs) and other learning advocates but can be used by any trade union and community representatives working to promote and support learning.

This is unionlearn’s invitation for website design and development agencies to tender for the redevelopment of our website. Closing date for entries is January 25th 2012.

Unionlearn have committed to promoting the opportunities that a low carbon economy will bring workers, particularly around learning and skills. We are working with a number of partner organisations to do this. These three events over the next few months give you a flavour of the work we’re doing and the work of others we wish to promote.
