Coalition faces tough challenge to reduce child and adult poverty

Commenting on UK poverty figures released today (Thursday) by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said: “Today's figures show that 100,000 children have been taken out of poverty in the last year. This means there are now 600,000 fewer children living in poverty than in 1996, an effort which took tremendous commitment and prioritisation by the last Government.

Disabled people convene at TUC to discuss coalition policies

More than 200 delegates will come together at the TUC's annual disability conference in London today (Wednesday) to discuss the potential impact of the new Government on disabled people. Job losses during the recession have so far not impacted disproportionately on disabled people, however a higher proportion of disabled people work in the public sector than the private sector.
