RMT calls for end to National Express rail shambles and early renationalisation as takeover bid collapses

RAIL UNION RMT today called upon the government to intervene to end the on-going shambles of National Express rail operations and to set a clear timetable for renationalisation of the East Coast Mainline and the East Anglia and C2C franchises as a takeover bid for the company collapsed in disarray this morning triggering a 30% collapse in National Express’s share price.

New rights for agency workers must be a priority

Commenting on the release of the consultation document on the draft Agency Worker Regulations today (Thursday) by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said: “The Government is right to introduce new rights for agency workers, but it is extremely disappointing that temps will have to wait so long for these rights to come into effect. Agency workers are even more in need of protection during a recession. Vulnerable workers are always the first to suffer when times are hard.
