In response to Vince Cable’s speech on HE today:
Commenting on the consultation on annuities announced by the Government today (Wednesday), TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:
“This is only an issue for the top few per cent of the richest pensioners who do not need to worry about whether their pension pot will run out before they die.
More than a fifth of adults in the UK do not have the basic numeracy skills needed for the complexities of modern everyday life, such as household budgeting, understanding statistical claims of political parties, calculating credit card interest rates or helping their children with homework.
UCU said today that its concerns about government plans for the future of university funding remained after a speech from the business secretary Vince Cable. The union said the government needed to clarify if students would be picking up the bill, through a graduate tax or other funding models, for its cuts agenda.
