RAIL UNION RMT confirmed today that drivers on Arriva Trains Wales will strike for 24 hours on Friday February 4.
The TUC has today (Wednesday) published a new guide for union reps to help them better support and represent disabled people at work.
Official statistics suggest that job losses during the recent recession did not disproportionately affect disabled people, but the TUC is concerned this will change when the government's spending cuts begin to bite. It must be noted and celebrated that the majority of schools are hitting their targets.
Following on from November's march that saw 50,000 students, lecturers and supporters protesting against higher tuition fees and cuts in teaching and support in universities and colleges, the National Union of Students (NUS) and UCU have joined forces with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to move the focus from London to the northwest, where the cuts could hit hardest.
In response to today's figures from the Office of National Statistics which show a 0.5% drop in GDP in the last quarter, Northern Regional Secretary Kevin Rowan said:
“The Northern TUC has consistently argued that severe spending cuts are a false economy that will cost jobs, harm firms and undermine growth.
