400-plus delegates at unionlearn’s annual conference heard…

Acclaimed Poet and Writer Dr Lemn Sissay, MBE, is today (Monday 27th June) launching the fifth edition of the TUC’s influential Tackling Racism guide at the unionlearn annual conference. Tackling Racism is at the heart of the TUC’s fight against racism and is used across the curriculum by TUC Education, which last year saw over 57,000 trade union reps trained on over 4,000 courses.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the TUC unionlearn annual conference, John Hayes, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further Education and Skills said:
“Unionlearn is central to the Government’s vision for building the nation’s skills, especially in helping to provide new access routes for apprenticeships…’
Today saw yet more recognition for the contribution to increasing learning and skills in North and West London made by Tom O’Callaghan. As a Unite union learning rep (ULR), Tom has worked tirelessly for the cause of learning in the workplace at Metroline (part of ComfortDelgro). To honour his dedication and commitment, Tom was presented with an award from Tom Beattie (Head of Lifelong Learning at Unite the Union) at the annual conference of the TUC’s unionlearn.

John Denham, MP and Dr Alan Whitehead, MP today (Friday 24 June) launched “Progression Pathways” a new publication from the TUC’s unionlearn. This is the national launch of the TUC publication, which provides advice and guidance to learners and trade union reps on how to recognise and develop their own skills. The publication will give them the knowledge and confidence to progress and to help others to improve their career chances.
The Government’s ambition to deliver 50,000 additional apprenticeships has been substantially exceeded: Tom Wilson, director of unionlearn, said
Learners of all ages can benefit from information gathered in this guide. It explores the sources of support and advice available especially for older workers when there is change at the workplace and choices need to be made on future paths and directions.
